EARN MORE

Every time we read or think about earning more, most of the times its money. Every individual needs more as he progresses in life. It starts with the basic needs of food, shelter and clothing. As and when these basics needs start getting satisfied we start feeling great about our accomplishments. With a little more time advancement it becomes a routine and we immediately realize that its not enough and we need MORE. The crucial question, which none of us dare to confront, is how much MORE. The question remains unanswered always as the temptation to earn more than what we have today blinds us from the fact of how much do we really want and how much is really good enough. That is when every individual thinks of earning more. The external environment is also a trigger most of the times to earn more which places us in a dirty competition of 'social status' and pushes us to be at par with our friends, neighbors and colleagues. The simple argument there is 'If they can afford it why can't I?' The tricky part is that we do not realize that its we who increase our liabilities and end up paying premiums for those liabilities. Thanks to the liberalization and globalization which has made it so easy for people with any kind of financial standing to procure the luxury goods in easy monthly installments (EMIs). EMI is a magic wand that helps us pay as we use.

In the mad rush of events throughout our life we often forget that there are so many other   things to be earned and earned more consistently. Have we really given a thought to the following:

  • Earn respect
  • Earn trust
  • Earn good-will
  • Earn blessings
  • Earn rewards
I am sure each one of us agrees to the above and is aware about it. However somewhere the money part has taken over all of this and in the recent times it sounds too idealistic. The argument would be 'Yeah! Sure! I understand and know it bro!! But how do i feed my family and self with all this?" Well, a valid question may be but surely an invalid hypothesis. In fact these are the things which enable us to earn a living. No one has grown big, renowned, famous without all of the above. The hard fact about money is that it only follows. It does not initiate by itself. You don't have money first and then the work or equivalent services. When we work for a month consistently we get a paycheck at the end of the month. We provide some kind of service and the fees follow. So its true, proven. Whenever we think about any income it follows the efforts.

However all the other earnings that we need to think about as mentioned above do not follow if not initiated. We cannot earn any of the above unless initiated by us and followed consistently. Actually making it so much a part of your chemistry that it actually comes to you very naturally and is like second nature. To gain this kind of an expertise it needs to be sown and grown in very early ages.

 Earn respect

Respect is earned. Its like a boomerang in the sense we must send it out before it will come back to us. TRUE EMPOWERMENT starts with GENUINE RESPECT for others. Respect is shown and felt through behavior. Because it is possible to act in ways that do not reflect how we really feel, the feeling of respect is more important than the behavior without the feeling. The right kind of feeling always supports the behavior positively.  Notice its JUST NOT important to treat people who are older than you with respect. Young people and for that matter everyone deserves respect as well. So how about our daily life?

  • Do we treat our spouse with respect?
  • Do we treat our parents, grand parents with respect?
  • Do we treat our children with respect?
  • Do we treat workers in public with respect?
  • Do we treat our superiors, peers and subordinates with respect?
  • Do we treat strangers with respect?
The prompt answer to the above questions might be 'YES' , might be because its the reality or it makes us feel good. However its important to understand if the person echoes the same response. That would be a real measurement of how much we respect others.  Remember that the most effective way to find out how well your efforts are working is to simply ask, "On a scale of 0-10, how much do you feel respected by me?"

" Let every man be respected as an individual and no man be idolized."
